This is my new Saint Bernard baby, Gretchen.

As you all know, I lost my best friend, Muesli, on Oct 13, 2006, after 11 years.
I missed her so much, I couldn't imagine replacing her. I did little but cry for the first several weeks.

But then in early January 2007, I heard about a litter of Saints that was due in February. I thought how wonderful a friend Muesli was,
how fun when she was young and healthy, and how much she inspired my comics.
So I put down a downpayment and reserved a female from the litter.

The breeder has been great! I got photos of Gretchen's mom, 'Tite Fille, pregnant with a huge belly.
I got a phonecall DURING the birth, the evening of Friday Feb 9.
I got photos of the puppies at 3 days, 5 days, one week, two weeks.

I went to see them at three weeks, and then last Saturday, at five weeks old, I got to pick out Gretchen.
You can see her then, in the photo on the main comics page, and here.

Gretchen will be coming home to stay forever, the morning of Good Friday, April 9, 2007.
She will be a few hours short of 8 weeks old, exactly the same age Muesli was when I got her. Such a little clown.

I was going to do these zines for a fundraiser for Muesli's wheelchair
for her advancing hip dysplasia and arthritis, but it never got done.
But then she died, and I sold the wheelchair to another needy older Saint.

And then I was going to finish them to raise money to pay the final vet bill for
her last days in the veterinary emergency hospital.
But I was just too depressed.

But now, I am totally pumped at my baby Gretchen coming home,
her funny crooked mask and spotted muzzle, fat little feet and goofy waddle.
So I have finally painted the colour covers and put together the best stories starring Muesli.
I am having a zine and book sale so that I can finish paying Muesli's bills
and afford the final payment when I pick up Gretchen in the countryside in two weeks,
and equip myself with puppy chow!

I hope that you will want to own these stories that you read online,
with the colour covers and photos of Muesli.
Both "Letting Work Slide" and the double issue "Le Regarde des Autres/ Energy Saver" are child, parent and coworker-friendly,
without even a "Bi-Dyke" mention. Whereas the other double issue zine
"Shades of Queer/Beyond Labels" is the probing genderqueer material you have come to expect of liliane comics.

Thanks so much for reading liliane. I hope you'll help me BRING GRETCHEN HOME!!

Note: if you don't have paypal, you may send me a cheque or cash. Please Email Me for instructions. Thanks!

le regard des autres

Le Regard Des Autres

Written and drawn by Leanne Franson
48 pages.
Two stories: "Le Regard des Autres" (In the Eyes of Others) first appeared Nov 23- Dec 16, 2004. "Energy Saver" first appeared April 16- May 22, 2005.
Le Regard des Autres was inspired by the constant remarks and looks I got from passersby and neighbors regarding my doggy-mommy habits.
I soon realised that I was quite guilty of judging others by my own standards as well.

Energy Saver was a reaction to the ignorance about Saint Bernards I heard daily on my rounds with Muesli.
It was spurred onto paper by my outrage at Keith Knight's comic comparison of an SUV in the city
to a Saint Bernard in a small apartment, much like my own life.

No Queer Content, child and parent-friendly.
Everything you ever wanted to know about Saints! A great present for the doglovers in your life! Brand-new color cover, painted in gouache, with a vignette of Muesli Angel from Christmas 2006.

$10.00
You will also receive YOUR CHOICE of one photo, either of Muesli as a puppy or an adult,
or Gretchen (as a puppy of course!)

beyond labels

Beyond Labels/ Shades of Queer

Written and drawn by Leanne Franson
16 pages.
Liliane and Asterix discuss the use of the word "Queer", and Liliane confronts the submissiveness and dominance
of dogs while walking Muesli on her daily rounds. How necessary are labels to people, and dogs, anyways?
Brand-new color cover, painted in gouache, with a vignette of Muesli Angel from Christmas 2006.
